Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School will host a community-led talk-story and photo exhibition about sugar plantation life in and around Laupahoehoe on Saturday, April 20, in the Laupahoehoe school band room.
Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School will host a community-led talk-story and photo exhibition about sugar plantation life in and around Laupahoehoe on Saturday, April 20, in the Laupahoehoe school band room.
The talk-story will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and will be co-moderated by local leaders Lucille Chung and Valerie Poindexter.
Neighbors who lived in the camps, worked on the plantations, or attended Laupahoehoe School will participate.
“This event will help preserve part of Laupahoehoe’s fascinating history for our community, our children and visitors to our island home,” said spokesman Fred Pollock. “Come, bring photos, bring your keiki and see old friends. Visitors also are most welcome.”
The event is jointly sponsored by the Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School, the North Hawaii Education and Research Center, and the Laupahoehoe Train Museum.
The talk-story session will be preceded by a photo exhibition from 2-7 p.m., with pupus served at 4:30 p.m.
